Job Description

At Snowflake, we are powering the era of the agentic enterprise. To usher in this new era, we seek AI-native thinkers across every function who are energized by the opportunity to reinvent how they work. You don’t just use tools; you possess an innate curiosity, treating AI as a high-trust collaborator that is core to how you solve problems and accelerate your impact. We look for low-ego individuals who thrive in dynamic and fast-moving environments and move with an experimental mindset — who rapidly test emerging capabilities to discover simpler, more powerful ways to deliver results. At Snowflake, your role isn't just to execute a function, but to help redefine the future of how work gets done.

Senior Software Engineer - Snowflake Postgres

Snowflake started with a clear vision: make modern data warehousing effective, affordable, and accessible to all data users. Because traditional on-premise and cloud solutions struggle with this, Snowflake developed an innovative product with a new, built-for-the-cloud architecture that combines the power of data warehousing, the flexibility of big data platforms, and the elasticity of the cloud at a fraction of the cost of traditional OLAP solutions. To complement this world class OLAP service, Snowflake is now building a world class OLTP service on Postgres.

We’re hiring Senior Postgres Engineers to help build the new Snowflake Postgres service. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a large, multi-cloud Postgres offering with access to an existing customer base.

AS A SENIOR POSTGRES ENGINEER YOU WILL:

  • Orchestrate Postgres databases via a Ruby application

  • Work with AWS, Azure, and GCP APIs

  • Participate in an on-call rotation for database operations

  • Build High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions

  • Tune Postgres to operate at scale for some of the largest datasets in the world

  • Secure and ensure customer data is protected

OUR IDEAL SENIOR BACKEND ENGINEER WILL HAVE:

  • 7+ years industry experience designing, building and supporting large scale systems in production

  • Experience building and maintaining distributed, fault tolerant services

  • Excellent understanding of low level operating systems concepts including multi-threading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and scale

  • Extremely strong fundamental computer science skills

  • Experience with Ruby & Go

  • Experience running & maintaining large Postgres servers

  • Familiarity with cloud networking (VPCs, PrivateLink, Peering, etc)

  • Experience working with remote, geographically distributed teams

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

THE FOLLOWING ARE CONSIDERED A PLUS:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Computer Science

  • Deep, expert knowledge of Postgres (WAL, extensions, configuration, replication, etc)

  • Experience designing and implementing large systems for public or private clouds

  • FedRAMP and DoD deployment experience

Every Snowflake employee is expected to follow the company’s confidentiality and security standards for handling sensitive data. Snowflake employees must abide by the company’s data security plan as an essential part of their duties. It is every employee's duty to keep customer information secure and confidential.

Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. We are looking for people who share our values, challenge ordinary thinking, and push the pace of innovation while building a future for themselves and Snowflake.

How do you want to make your impact?
